A new year always brings new questions and new insights. At Ribcap, we regularly receive questions from customers who want to know more about our products and how they can improve their lives. In this blog, we answer the most frequently asked questions of 2024, so you can get quick and clear answers to the things that matter to you.
1. Can Ribcap be worn by people taking blood thinners?
Yes, Ribcap helmets can be worn by people taking blood thinners. In fact, they are often recommended for extra protection because people on blood thinners are at higher risk for serious bleeding from head injuries. However, it is always a good idea to consult a doctor to make sure the helmet meets your specific needs.
2. Can Ribcap be worn with a hearing aids?
Yes, Ribcap helmets can be worn with hearing aids, but proper sizing is important. Make sure the fit is not too tight for the hearing aids to work properly. It also depends on the model, so trying it on is the best way to know! If in doubt, you can always send us a picture of your hearing aids or consult an audiologist.
3. How do I choose the right size?
Depending on the Ribcap model you choose, please refer to picture 1 or picture 2. Figure 1 is for all models except the Baseball Cap and Figure 2 is for the Baseball Cap only.
The image below shows circumference A and circumference B. Use a tape measure to measure the circumference of your head just above your eyebrows and ears (circumference B). Don't have a tape measure? Use a piece of string to measure your head circumference and place the string on a ruler. Compare your measurement to our size chart on the website to determine the correct size. If you are between sizes, we recommend taking the larger size.

4. Can Ribcap be used for sports?
No, Ribcap is not certified as a sports helmet (such as skiing, skating, cycling, etc.). Ribcap is specifically designed for people with special needs, especially those who are more likely to fall, have seizures, hit their head or suffer TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury). For sports activities, we recommend a traditional sports helmet.
5. My Ribcap is tight, what should I do?
If your Ribcap is too tight, first make sure you are wearing the correct size according to our size chart. At first, the Ribcap may feel a little tight, but after a few tries, this should disappear as the helmet adjusts to the shape of your head. In addition, our Ribcaps have adjustable chin straps that you can adjust for a better fit. If the problem persists, contact our team for personal advice by emailing james@ukribcap.com.
6. I have had a craniectomy, is Ribcap suitable for me?
We recognize the need for additional protection after craniectomy surgery. We are in the process of developing a solution for post-craniectomy recovery. In the meantime, a hard shell can be added in consultation with an orthopedic specialist. Please let us know if you would like to be on our interest list by emailing james@ukribcap.com.
7. Will a Ribcap be reimbursed?
To get reimbursed for a Ribcap, you will need a prescription from your doctor. Check with your insurance company to see if they will reimburse for pre-fabricated orthopedic helmets. Once approved, you can order the Ribcap from a local medical supply store. Be sure to provide all required documentation and ask specifically about the Ribcap. If you have specific questions regarding your reimbursement or medical supply store, please do not hesitate to contact us.
8. Can I wear a Ribcap without a chin strap?
Some people use the chinstrap and some don't, but we recommend you always use it for extra protection. Our helmets fit most heads well, but if you suddenly fall or the helmet becomes loose, it may not protect you 100%.
9. Isn't a Ribcap too warm?
No, a Ribcap helmet is designed with breathable and moisture-wicking materials to ensure that it doesn't get too hot, even during extended use. The combination of lightweight materials and ventilation ensures that your head stays cool in any situation. This makes Ribcap ideal for everyday use, both indoors and out. Our Ribcap helmets are seasonal and have a winter or summer fabric, so be sure to consider the fabric when choosing the appropriate Ribcap helmet.

- - Summer helmets: Baseball Cap, Billie, Bowie, Hardy, Fox

10. Can a Ribcap be worn by people with sensory sensitivities?
Yes, a Ribcap can often be worn by people with sensory sensitivities. Our Ribcap helmets are designed with soft, breathable and lightweight materials to provide comfort and prevent irritation. They do not contain hard or distracting parts like traditional helmets, which often makes them more suitable for people who are sensitive to pressure or certain textures. However, it is important to test the product first, as everyone has different sensitivities.
11. Can I take the Ribcap apart?
No, the Ribcap helmets are designed as a whole and the protective padding is firmly integrated into the outer fabric. This ensures that the protection continues to function optimally and that safety is not compromised. Therefore, it is not possible to replace the padding and fabric separately.
